Going on a business trip is an exciting opportunity to make new contacts that you wouldn’t be able to otherwise, and maybe even to experience a few days in a town that you have never visited before.
If you want to make the most out of your trip, it’s a good idea to plan for what you will do when you get there, so you can be sure that you are prepared.
Research The Company You Are Visiting
The first thing to do is to research the company you are visiting. You will need to be sure of where their offices are and how you will reach them, as well as knowing a little about the office culture. For example, do they dress in casual or smart clothing? Are they likely to want you to do a full-on presentation when you are there or are they a little less formal and this and likely to be happy with a chat over coffee?
Doing your research will help you to pack for your trip and prepare for any meetings that you have planned. Plus it will help you to feel more prepared so that you can go in feeling confident.
The best ways to do your research are:
- Ask. You will have been asked to visit by somebody at the company, so ask them anything that you need to know – they will likely be more than happy to help!
- Make yourself acquainted with their website. Be sure to read up on what they have done in the past and what they are planning in the future. This will help you to make your preparation for your meeting as relevant as possible and will show that you are invested in them.
- Take a look at them on social media. Look at their pages on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Twitter to get an idea of the way they are presenting themselves to their audience, and how their audience is receiving them. Being able to talk about a recent marketing campaign when you visit is a sure way to impress.
Research The Town You Are Visiting
Do a little research on the town, not just on where the company is that you will be visiting but if there are any attractions that you want to visit and where the restaurants are that you would like to eat at.
Think about whether you would prefer to stay in a quiet neighbourhood or whether you’d like to be in the heart of the town, and research your accommodation accordingly.
It’s worth taking the time to write up an itinerary so you can make sure that you do everything you want to while you are in town.
Plan How You Will Get To The Airport
Getting to the airport late can completely ruin a trip! If you are taking public transport always allow plenty of time for unscheduled delays, ideally you’ll want to take the train or bus before the one that gets you in at the time you actually need to be there! Think about booking your tickets in advance as well, as this will be cheaper.
If you’re driving, it is a good idea to leave yourself ample time to get to the airport before your flight. It’s also worth booking your airport parking in advance as availability isn’t guaranteed. If you are looking for short term parking at MCO airport, you can find and book it in one place via the Parkon app.
Write A Packing List
It’s amazing what you will forget when you are panicking at the last minute! A few days before you travel write a list of everything that you want to take with you – this will also give you time to do things like buy additional toiletries or wash clothes.
Prepare For Your Meeting
Be sure that you understand exactly what you want to get out of the meeting, and what the other party wants to get out of it as well, and make sure that you have all of the information that you need on hand. It’s a good idea to save notes to your computer’s hard drive rather than relying on the internet or network connections, too.
